Dear Clients,

Welcome to the September Newsletter! In August we completed a customer satisfaction survey and I mentioned CRI-SIL would announce the winner of the drawing for a new Apple iTouch IPOD as well as publish the survey results. I'm proud to announce we have a winner! Congratulations goes to Ms. Paulete Teixeira, a buyer for Trelleborg Sealing Solutions! She was presented the iTouch IPOD by Mr. Robert Stevens, region representative, on September 29th, 2009. We appreciate her effort in helping us improve our business and our overall customer satisfaction. Here are the results of the survey:

Results of survey:
1. Did you receive your order on the date you were promised? - 84% responded "Yes."
2. Were you promised your original requested ship date? - 96% responded "Yes."
3. Did you receive your order acknowledgment in a timely fashion? - 100% responded "Yes."
4. Did you receive your material in satisfactory condition? - 96% responded "Yes."
5. Did you receive all of your documentation with your order? - 98% responded "Yes."
6. Are you satisfied with the communication between you and CRI-SIL - 98% responded "Yes."
7. Would you order from CRI-SIL again? - 100% responded "Yes."
8. Percentage of customers that responded to the survey - 34%.

Many thanks to our customers that responded. The results of the survey were positive but they also revealed we still have work to do! Our goal is to use these numbers as a baseline and improve in each of the categories that fell under 100%.

CRI-SIL has already implemented changes based on the feedback! For example, to improve on time delivery (question number one), CRI-SIL hired two new operators and created a position that works solely to improve scheduling. We're already seeing a dramatic improvement. Again, thank you for your help

HOW CAN CRI-SIL HELP MAKE YOUR BUSINESS MORE PROFITABLE?

Go Green! There are many ways to save or make money while reducing your overall energy consumption. CRI-SIL is committed to employing as many of these tactics as possible.  As a manufacturer, it can be difficult to efficiently dispose of waste products in an environmentally friendly manner. It's often quicker and easier to put trash in the dumpster and forget about it. Some of the things that CRI-SIL has done to reduce it's carbon footprint actually saves us money. Some things even produce a revenue stream!

  1. All paper and cardboard material is crushed, bailed, and sold to a recycling facility - estimated annual income - $1700

  2. All steel 55-Gallon waste drums are sold to a local recycler - estimated annual income - $6800

  3. By removing steel drums, paper, and cardboard from our dumpster, we have reduced our waste stream by over 83%. By reducing the amount of money we spent on waste removal, we are increasing bottom line revenue and helping to reduce the amount of material that would normally be sent to a landfill.

  4. By replacing all the metal halide lighting fixtures located in the production department with new, high efficiency  fluorescent fixtures we have realized a 35% savings in the amount of money spent on lighting. Additionally, the state of Maine helps offset the cost of installing energy efficient devices.

  5. By replacing DC motors and drive units on our production equipment, we have been able to incorporate "soft starts" which decrease amperage spikes when the equipment is energized.

  6. By replacing an aging gas fired heating system on the production floor with a new, high efficiency natural gas burner, we have been able to reduce money spent on heating by 15%.

  7. By replacing our glycol chiller with a new, high efficiency model, we reduced our cooling energy consumption by over 30%.

If you have any questions on what you can do to save money while reducing your energy consumption, feel free to contact us. We would be more than happy to share with you what we have learned.

TECHNICAL TIP

DID YOU KNOW:
When designing a silicone mold, the type of plating you choose will often determine whether your finished parts end up perfect or problematic.

When molding various silicone compounds using a traditional steel mold that has an un-plated surface, it may become necessary to use additional amounts of mold release to properly pull the part from the mold.  The additional mold release can cause a multitude of issues, including, but is not limited to, mold fouling, flow lines, and air entrapment.

By utilizing electroless nickel plating on your molds, you may be able to eliminate the afore mentioned problems in addition to saving money on mold release. Additional money savings may be realized through scrap reduction.
